Schola Cantorum Choir celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with a concert in the Loretto Chapel on Sunday, March 15th 2015!
The ancient mystical sounds of Medieval Irish monasteries will echo through Loretto Chapel, along with a few Irish laments, folk songs and Planxtys. Choral music of Dublin’s Michael McGlynn, founder and director of Anúna (Ireland’s National Choir) will also be on tap.
Schola’s maestro will give a concert preview 30 minutes before the concert. Tickets are available here: http://schola-sf.org/tickets.html
From the Director
During the course of understanding my Irish heritage, I’ve had the great opportunity to travel to Ireland in 2011 and 2013 to sing with Anúna, Ireland’s National Choir. This was followed in 2013-14 with my New Mexico Folk Arts apprenticeship with County Mayo’s master folk artist Gerry Carthy. In 2014 I returned to Ireland with accordion in hand to experience the traditional music of Ireland’s pubs. Ireland is a place of rich musical history, and “Memories of Ireland” gives a taste of the variety of Irish music being sung today on the Emerald Island.
