Jamie Russell was born in Brighton, England. When he was four, his step father, sax player Gary Windo, moved the family to London. Jamie grew up in and around the diverse music scene Gary was involved in. Jamie began playing drums at 5 years old, on a set that had belonged to Keith Moon.
In 1992 Gary Windo passed away from a long time illness. Jamie recalls “I’d been playing guitar for a few years, then after Gary died, I started writing and that became very healing”.
Jamie was living on New York’s Lower East Side in ’93, and playing his new songs around the neighborhood of alphabet city ; places like Diana’s, Sidewalk Café, Nightingales and Sin-e.”
Jamie’s writing and playing led to him recording his first album “Fragility’ released in 2012, recorded in London’s East End over the course of a year ..
“I met someone in New York who was English, and I decided to return to U.K.”
Jamie worked in the fashion business as well as playing out around London.
In 2012, Jamie went to visit his mother in Santa Fe NM… “I fell in love with the mountains, the diversity of spirit; and there are so many talented musicians here!
I went back to UK to make my next album, but Santa Fe stayed with me and I came back!!”
Jamie moved to Santa Fe, where in three weeks he wrote, recorded, played, engineered and produced “Santa Fe Sessions” 2013 Grasshopper Music.
“I was very fortunate to have some great musicians play on my songs!”
Jamie is writing his next album, due for release late 2019.
