The guitar is the single most enduring icon in American history. The Medieval To Metal exhibition from the National Guitar Museum explores all facets of the world’s most popular instrument, from its history as an instrument of popular culture over the past 400 hundreds years to modern efforts to reinvent the guitar with different materials, shapes, and approaches to design.
Visitors will experience the art, history, and cultural impact of the guitar in an exhibition that contains 40 instruments–ranging from the rare and antique to the wildly popular and innovative. The artifacts are supplemented with dozens of photographs and illustrations that depict significant artists and instruments of the last century.
The Medieval to Metal show comes from the National GUITAR Museum which is the first museum in the United States dedicated to the history, evolution and cultural impact of the guitar. Its touring exhibitions, launched in 2011, will be installed in over two dozen different cities before becoming the basis of The National GUITAR Museum in a permanent home—the location of which will be announced in 2018. The organization was founded in 2009.
