The Jean Cocteau Cinema presents Cluesless to kick off our Girls Night Out film series, to run in February, March, and April. For the opening, the cinema is partnering with local make-up and wellness brand, W3LL PEOPLE to create a cinematic experience that empowers women and girl audiences over the course of the series. Bring your girlfriends, your mom, and/or your daughter for a fun-filled night with drink specialties and a celebration of some of our favorite female-centric films. Boys are of course welcome too. At the end of the show enjoy beats from DJ Worl in our lobby for a mini dance party!
A W3LL PEOPLE representative will be on hand at each show ready to share information regarding cosmetic ingredients to avoid and personalizedproduct recommendations. They will also provide a unique product for gifting at each of the shows.
The first film in the series is CLUELESS (1995) adapted from the Jane Austen novel, Emma, in which ultra-rich teenagers in Beverly Hills cross satire and dramedy. Teen queens Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash), both names coined from “great singers of the past that now do infomercials,” are indulgent high-class girls who just want the perfect outfit and to be invited to the right party. But Cher, who lives with her widowed, lawyer father (Dan Hedaya) and alluring, delicate stepbrother (Paul Rudd), also feels the need to give to those who are less fortunate — like the two dorky teachers she pushes together (“negotiating” higher grades for herself in the process) and new student Tai (Brittany Murphy), who begins as a zero and ends up a Cher lookalike. Cher, despite her popularity, also has a sensitive side, and she is seeking a perfect boyfriend, who ends up being right where she least expects.
