SWAIA is making me mad that they would disrespect elder artist who have been doing Indian Market longer then any of those leaders have been alive! This is not right and I don’t care about the “new” direction in which they are going by downsizing. What the hell is that about? You should be growing the market larger. Ugh. Anyhow, please show up and help our Pueblo elder artists (the reason why people come to the market) regain their booths they have had for generations. Please go by La Fonda Hotel and help Support Reject Indian Market Artist and Elders.
Pueblo Indian Leaders, Tribal Councillors & Master Artists will confront SWAIA officials at SWAIA Annual Membership meeting. ISSUES: Rejection of Southwest Traditional Artists, Indian Market Elders, Age Discrimination, Taking Away Family Booths, and targeting Founding Families for Elimination. CALL FOR RETURN TO ORIGINAL MISSION OF INDIAN MARKET and an END OF DISCRIMINATION. At present, SWAIA Officials state they will bar entrance, unless Pueblo leaders and the supporters pay SWAIA $75 / person. If the elders are turned away like OUTCASTS, Pueblo leaders will hold a PRESS CONFERENCE at the Santa Fe Plaza. HISTORIC NOTE – For 95 years, the Annual Membership Meeting has been open to the public and Free of Charge. The NEW SWAIA BOARD also has eliminated the Artists Council, Standards Committee, Tenure, Lifetime Achievement Awards and more. SWAIA no longer considers Indian Market Artists to be members of SWAIA.
