ARTsmart Partners with Encaustic Art Institute and De Vargas Middle School on Mural Project
ARTsmart today announced a mural project with 8th grade students from De Vargas Middle School planned for an exterior wall at the Encaustic Art Institute located on 632 Agua Fria St. to be painted on October 27 from 9am – 2pm.
Encaustic Art Institute Founder Douglas Mehrens initiated the mural project.
Established in March 2015 as a permanent gallery space for artists practicing in the medium with the mission to promote public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of encaustic art, the institute is a 501(c)(3) like ARTsmart. “We truly appreciate Encaustic and Douglas’ support and initiation of this project that gives De Vargas students the opportunity to create art that the community can visit and enjoy,” said ARTsmart Executive Director Sharon Peterson.
The winning design is by student Hector Castillo and shows the silhouettes of skateboarders against a colorful abstract background. Volunteers from Encaustic Art Institute will transfer the design on the wall for students to paint.
Our thanks to De Vargas Art Teacher Grace Mayer and Principal Marc Ducharme, as well as Artisan art supply source for supplying spray paint.
