The Nacha Mendez Trio

  • Unit B 821 West San Mateo Road Santa Fe, NM, 87505 United States (map)

Featuring Melanie Monsour and Sitara Schauer

Nacha's music is an expression of her curiosity, her varied experience and restless passion for living. It refuses to fit neatly into any one genre, fearlessly drawing on a wide range of influences to expand the definition of Latin music. Yet filtered through her powerful voice, these various threads come together in a single unified expression. Accompanied by pianist Melanie Monsour and violinist Sitara Schauer. Expect to be moved!

Nacha Mendez, Gila Apache and Chicana, discovered her love for music at an early age. A nationally acclaimed singer and composer, she has been honored with a National Endowment for the Arts Award and the New Mexico Platinum Lifetime Achievement Award. As Executive Director of the Nacha Mendez Music Scholarship, she empowers young girls across New Mexico through scholarships, music education, and mentorship.

Pianist Melanie Monsour, Santa Fe based pianist/composer, has been a professional musician since the 80's. Known for her study of the composers, Gurdjieff/ deHartmann, she's performed this work throughout the world, most notably, Russia, Chile and Australia.

Violinist Sitara Schauer is an interdisciplinary multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, teacher and performer. She has orchestrated numerous compositions for theatre, operas, festivals, art installations, schools and film. Sitara’s primary creative expression is her band, Rumelia Collective.
