The largest pilgrimage in the United States happens here in Northern New Mexico with many pilgrims starting here in Santa Fe for the 30 mile trek north to a sacred site called the Santuario de Chimayo.

Mr. Medina a local to Chimayo for 3 days in a row kept finding a gold cross in his field and after the 3rd day he told his sons that he felt some good entity wanted a chapel erected on the site.

Once erected since the 19th century people have made a pilgrimage to this chapel for the healing qualities of the dirt from the hole where the crucifix was found!
Over 300,000 people make the pilgrimage.
