Best way to show your community and nation your love is to practice your rights and one of the most important is the right to assemble peacefully to protest a government that isn’t acting in it’s full capacity (18 days into a government shutdown). The right to assemble is a fundamental aspect of American constitutional law, deeply rooted in the history and principles that shaped the United States.
This right, enshrined in the First Amendment, allows citizens to gather and express their views, forming a crucial part of our participatory system.
Understanding its origins, key legal precedents, and practical considerations is essential for appreciating its role in maintaining a functional constitutional republic.
In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings.
In Santa Fe, we’ve been rejecting kings since 1680. The spirit of the Pueblo Revolt lives on in our refusal to bow to authoritarianism and our commitment to collective freedom.
On Saturday, October 18, we’ll rise together for No Kings 2.0, a nationwide day of action to stand against corruption, cruelty, and control — and to stand with our community. Our event will bring that resistance to life through both a march and a community block party, strengthening the ties that hold us together.
We’ll march from the Federal Courthouse (106 S Federal Pl) at 10am, with the option to join at the Plaza around 10:20am. From there, we’ll move to the Roundhouse, where from 11am–2pm the energy continues with a community block party featuring local groups, art, music, and calls to action.
This is more than a protest — it’s a chance to connect, build relationships, and uplift the voices and leadership of those most impacted by systemic injustice. Together, we’ll celebrate our resilience, deepen our solidarity, and ensure that every person leaves plugged into the movements shaping Santa Fe’s future.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
