We begin our annual National Poetry Month Celebration with two great poets!

Ann Filemyr, PhD, has published seven books of poetry, many of them collaborations with visual artists: Love Enough(Red Mountain Press, 2014); The Healer’s Diary (Sunstone Press, 2012); On the Nature of Tides ( LaNana Creek Press, 2012) Growing Paradise (LaNana Creek Press, 2010); Skin on Skin (Starfire Press, 1999); Thinking (Vestige Press, 1987) Journey of Hags (Wicked Witch of the Midwest Press, 1982). She has also published essays, chapters, short memoir, and creative nonfiction in anthologies, literary journals, anthologies, newspapers, calendars, websites, and academic textbooks.

Her most recent book, Making Way: Poems of Conscience, came together in the winter of 2026 during a dangerous time in our country and the world. They speak of resilience, resistance, possibility, persistence, and bearing witness.

She is the Founder and Director of the PhD in Visionary Practice & Regenerative Leadership at Southwestern College, a consciousness-centered graduate school in Santa Fe. Her vision for this unique transdisciplinary doctoral degree is to support the doers and dreamers who will co-imagine and carry out the initiatives, frameworks, practices, policies, and projects that will support the world we can imagine and bring-into-being.

Brent Kie is from K'awaika (Laguna Pueblo) & is born into yaa'ka hanu (corn clan) representing Tsi'yaa'maa & Guish'dii villages. His given name translates to “the blue light at dawn”. Currently based in Santa Fe, Brent is a multi-faceted artist who specializes in writing & music. When it comes to writing he favors the realms of poetry, prose, & creative non-fiction. The depth of his works are reflections of the land as teachers, interpretating epistemology as life lessons, & restitutions of medicines once overharvested. Those who choose to participate with his artistry build a bond with him in the spirit world, where he hopes his impact is the medicine they’ve been searching for.
