Julian Marley is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Barbados-born Lucy Pounder. Growing up in a musical environment, he became a self-taught musician, mastering various instruments including the bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards. Recognized for his contributions to the consciousness movement in music, Julian is a devout Rastafarian whose work is deeply inspired by life and spirituality.
His debut album, "Lion in the Morning," released in 1996, showcased his roots and heritage, leading to an international tour with The Uprising. In 1998, Julian contributed to Lauryn Hill's Grammy-winning album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," and in 2003, he released his sophomore album, "A Time and Place," which blended reggae and jazz. His 2009 album, "Awake," was Grammy-nominated and won ‘Best Album of the Year’ at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in 2010. In 2023, he won a Grammy for his album "Colors of Royal" and received another nomination for the 2024 awards, solidifying his ongoing impact in the reggae genre.
