Julie Anne Shapiro
Julie Anne is a vocalist and storyteller blending traditional jazz, musical theatre, and improvisation. A SUNY Fredonia BFA Musical Theatre graduate, Julie followed the call to Santa Fe, NM in 2021 where she has performed with Theatre Grottesco, Tri M Productions, Santa Fe Classic Theater and Teatro Paraguas while receiving her certificate in Vocal Sound Healing and teaching youth performance arts at NDI and Desert Montessori. Her artistry has been uniquely shaped by global explorations in music and performance, including a recent international theatrical residency in India, Japan, and Greece with One Year Lease. Guided by jazz mentor Dr. Diane Richardson, Julie crafts performances that are heartfelt, theatrical, and deeply human.
John Rangel
John Rangel grew up in NYC. A native of New York City, John Rangel is a pianist, composer, and producer. John moved to Los Angeles in the early 90’s to become involved in Music Production and Film Scoring. He performed and recorded there with numerous Jazz legends. John immersed himself in Leimert Park (the center of African-American Arts in LA) which was brimming with poets, artists, and musicians. This community has had a major influence on John’s musical direction and worldview.
Since moving to Santa Fe in 2005, he has composed a “Solar Concerto for Chamber Orchestra”, recorded Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier Books 1 & 2, composed music for film and audio books, and produced numerous audio CD’s. John has won 15 New Mexico Music Awards for music production. He also started “The Tribute Trio” to focus on the works of legendary Jazz Piano Icons. Some of John’s performance highlights include; Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg, Inntone Jazz Festival in Austria, Carnegie Hall, Royce Hall, Gene Harris Jazz Festival, the Playboy Jazz Festival, Central Avenue Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café in London, North Sea Jazz Festival. John has performed with Nat Adderley, Eddie Daniels, Dave Grusin, Sam Rivers, Dwight Trible, Billy Higgins, Eric Bibb, and many others.
