Cheap Art Workshop

  • Vital Spaces 1600 Saint Michaels Drive Santa Fe, NM, 87505 United States (map)

Join Susie George in making art with accessible materials on Thursday, Oct 23 6-8 PM at the Annex!

In the 1980s, Peter Schumann, director of the Bread and Puppet Theater, wrote many manifestos on the subject of Cheap Art in response to Exxon Mobile’s proclamation that “Art is for business.” Schumann says, “Art is not business! Art is food. You can’t eat it, but it feeds you.”

Explore the topic with former Bread and Puppet puppeteer, Susie George, through discussion, demo and hands on experience. Everyone will have the opportunity to make their own pieces with trash, found objects and whatever else there is on hand.

Feel free to bring items you’re considering throwing away (like cardboard, glossy newspaper ads, old phone book pages etc) that you’d like to turn into art. Long Live Cheap Art!
