The Avant Jazz Workshop presents a birthday celebration of drummer Milton Villarrubia III, a veteran of the New Mexican music scene, featuring two of his favorite music projects. $10 at the door with free parking.

iNK oN pAPER is a drum, bass, and electronics duo, with Milton on drums and electronics and Carlos Santistevan on bass and electronics. With over 25 years of playing music together, Carlos and Milton have an instinctual synergy. Both members play hybridized acoustic-electric versions of their instruments incorporating live looping and signal processing.

The Kodama Trio with Robert Muller on piano, Jeremy Bleich on electric bass and Milton on drums has been operating for a number of years in the New Mexico area, winning the 2016 New Mexico Music Awards for both Best Jazz Album & Best Jazz Song. They create their own music using the full spectrum of jazz rather than limiting themselves to the more consonant or dissonant ends of what is available. This results in a wide ranging program that should engage even the most casual jazz listener.... come by and hear for yourself!
