Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66

One of the most internationally successful Brazilian artists of all time, Mendes recorded more than 35 albums, many of which went gold or platinum, and was a three-time Grammy Award winner. From his pioneering contributions to the foundations of bossa nova alongside the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, through the era-defining Latin-pop sound of his iconic group Brasil ’66; his scintillating collaborations with jazz legends like Cannonball Adderley and Herbie Mann to his chart-topping adult contemporary smash “Never Gonna Let You Go.” An infectious spirit of joy pervaded everything Mendes shared.

For our Saturday tribute to Sergio we are blessed to have Bert Dalton on piano, New Mexico’s foremost performer of Brazilian music, and Eliana Joy as one of the few or only singers in NM to perform in Portuguese. Add to that the talents of Alex Murzyn (sax, flute, clarinet, composer, arranger, 4X winner NM Music Award), Gordy Johnson (top bass player, world tours, TV appearances, on 150 albums), and Jesse Parker on percussion (Nosotros), ad Russ Scanlon (guitar with Dave Brubeck, Austin Symphony, Bernadette Peters, Carol Channing, Rich Little, Martha and the Vandellas), and that adds up to an amazing nights of music! Join us for this celebration!

Performances with Eliana Joy - Vocals, Alex Murzyn - Sax, Joe Chellman - Drums, Bert Dalton - Piano, Gordy Johnson - Bass, Russ Scanlon - Guitar
