You are cordially invited to join Moby Dick, DJ Dynamite Sol AND some very Special Guests in helping Nick to celebrate Evangelo’s 42nd Anniversary! Saturday, February 18th at 9pm!

42 years? Forty Two YEARS?!? That’s a long time for any business, a good solid run. For a bar to survive in Santa Fe (a town not exactly known for it’s nightlife) that long is nothing short of miraculous.

And so it means a lot that Nick asked us to play the anniversary bash this year – Evangelo’s has been a mainstay for nightlife in Santa Fe since “Papa” Angelo opened it in ’71, and a constant in my life since my family moved here in ’76.

Mine and Nick’s dad were great friends for years, and I remember going in there with Moses many times when I was a kid. All the wicker, rubber snakes and flying fish captivated me every time; it was just the coolest place ever. In those days Papa ran the place; Nick was an up and coming soccer player who used to take my 2 year old sister for ice cream while Moses and Angelo whiled away the afternoon…

Later, when I returned from New York in the early 90′s, Evangelo’s was always the hang. Pool tables downstairs. The best jukebox in town. The highly sought after booth seats by the windows. It felt more like someone’s tricked out living room than a bar a lot of the time, and I think that’s why we loved it. I spent a lot of time there in those days with many of you, and with friends that are no longer with us.

The memories come fast and furious every time I walk in there now; the past can be overwhelming if you let it. So I have to remind myself- Life is for living. Honor the past, but live in the present and always keep an eye to the future.

And that’s what we mean to do. Moby Dick is gonna be joined by some of our friends from The Faculty; although it’ll be a Zep heavy night we definitely have some surprises in store… and you KNOW Sol’s gonna be killing it downstairs. So come on down and help us celebrate 42 years of Santa Fe’s most enduring “public house” and usher in the next 42 years of… “No Bud”
