Nicholas Williams was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico and attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he studied architecture and construction management. He opened his own design firm in 2009 and established Slab on Grade LLC (providing construction management services for his designs) in 2010.
Nicholas is known for his minimally modern but intricately detailed design style and uses his work to investigate the dimensions of form, light, materiality, and space as influenced by the colors, landscapes, and geometry of the high desert. He continues to develop and explore prefabrication techniques in his current work, as he believes this is the inevitable future of the construction industry.
Nicholas incorporates passive solar heating and ventilation techniques and uses sustainable technologies in all of his projects. He specifies local craftsmen, materials, and products whenever possible. Due to his extensive experience in construction and cost estimating, he can work within a client’s budget from day one of the design process.
Nicholas continues to battle against the “fauxdobe” mentality and stagnant Santa Fe Style that is rampant in Northern New Mexico, one day at a time.
