Ok, I know this is Kate’s gig but I have to tell you all about my dinner at Shibumi.
Guy’s night out has never tasted so good. Artist Rx, Zack and I met for dinner in Santa Fe’s latest restaurant to hit the scene downtown Santa Fe.
The lavish, natural décor sets the mood immediately as you walk in the door of this humble adobe building on the corner of Johnson and La Chapelle.
Shibumi is Santa Fe’s newest ramen noodle house to hit the city with a creative and traditional take on Japanese ramen. Sit at the chef’s bar and watch your meal be prepared in front of you (perfect for all you at home chefs) or opt for the sake bar like we did.
Generous glasses of sake flow from large bottles traditionally overflowing as a gesture wellness to your guest. Excellent options by the glass, ranging in price from $7 to $12.50 or by the bottle, $25 to $130. A fine selection of Japanese beer is also available. Champagne too.
We started with an order of Gyōza; a spicy pork dumpling was compliment by soy dipping sauce and a perfect match for my Kirin beer.
Otsumami ~ Zensai is offered. Although skipped, I we all went straight for the RAMEN.
Served in a gorgeously deep red and black bowl with ladle spoons the aromas spicing up my breathing air. I had the evening special Beef Rib Meat served with a perfectly poached egg, fresh herbs and vegetables. I highly recommend that you add some the specially made dried spice mix in the spice tray, it gives soup an amazing kick! The broth was so hearty as opposed to some other places that serve up a less flavored broth. By far, Shibumi has now become my favorite noodle place in town for many years.
Make sure you visit Shibumi beginning Tuesday 2.15.11 Shibumi will be offering a “late night special” (ok late for Santa Fe!) $10.00 Ramen after 8:45. The offer will end 2.28.11.
