I gotta say, I am not a big fan of this event anymore. When I first came to Santa Fe fifteen years ago, I set-up, oversaw, and organized the Industry Trade Tasting for four years and loved every minute of it. I had chances to taste wine, adn expand my knowledge over and over, along with meeting with purveyors, fellow bartenders and servers.
But as of late my palate is fatigued by by a few things and I wanna get this in the open.
Wine is pure and should be enjoyed as such: ever heard of Sangria, the Champagne Cocktail, The Bellini, The Mimosa, or the Sangaree?
I would never make a drink out of good wine: Why not? It makes a better quality drink.
May I have a taste of each of your Chardonnays by the glass: Oh, so you want be to pour you a taste of 5 different wines totally about a half a glass for free meanwhile taking up ten minutes of my time where I end up ignoring the other 40 people in the bar? Pretty absurd. Imagine if I walked into a bar and asked for a sample of all the bourbons before choosing which one I wanted in my Manhattan, or asked to have a taste of each of your entrees so I know what to choose. Get real people.
I have extensive knowledge about wine: Good for you. I prefer experience over knowledge anyday
I only drink_______: Stay home you snobby bastard.
Here’s the deal: I like wine as well, but there is no need to be a elitist nut-job who believes his palate, knowledge, and collection are the best and wants to express that to every person in the room. Look at me, look at me!! Do you really act like that in public and think your gonna get respect? Didn’t mommy tech you better? Obviously not.
So to the few, the proud the wine snobs out there, I ask you only one thing. Get the cork out of your ass before you come out this weekend. And PLEASE leaves your Reidel at home!!!!!!
