Caprese Diamante at the W Hotel Westwood

During my latest adventure to Tinseltown I found some fun and exciting things to do, eat and drink. Brunch at “The Backyard” was my much needed breakfast by the pool and remedy from my desperation to get my “Hollywood” on and there was no better place then surrounded by hip and tranquil outdoor/pool area of the W Hotel in Westwood. I was treated to a tasty brunch by Top Chef competitor Dakota Weiss, the hotel’s Executive Chef who, in turn, introduced me to the great Stephanie Sanders, the Master Mixologist for the W’s bar scene and restaurants.  Stephanie came over to the table and welcomed my buddy and photographer extraordinaire Gaelen Casey with a cocktail from her new autumn menu, a little treat called the Caprese Diamante.

I will be honest, when she explained it to me, I immediately thought of a caprese salad and those familiar flavors but adding these fine ingredients to liquor, well I thought, what have we got to lose? We gotta try something different, right?

Right!

The Caprese Diamante is composed of cherry tomatoes, fresh lemon sour, simple syrup, Deleon Diamante Blanco tequila and fresh basil and a drop of honey muddled together and then poured into a black lava salted tumbler. It’s cool, very refreshing and one of the most interesting play on flavors I’ve had since the first cucumber cooler was introduced. Don’t get me wrong, our mixologist are amazing here in Santa Fe but maybe it was the pool, the sun, that thing in the air in Southern California that made me enjoy and fall in love with this divine libation.

Make sure on your next trip to Los Angeles to make time to pamper yourself at “The Backyard” of the W Hotel in Westwood, California and enjoy a refreshing drink by the pool or indoors at the trendy NINETHIRTY restaurant and chill to the cool house beats pulsating through out the entire property. The good life is affordable, make sure to check out their $9.30 Happy Hour with munchies starting at $1, yeah a buck, for fresh oysters! From there, it only gets better.

Get your shades on and swag out like a star!

So sit back, relax and enjoy

Welcome to L.A.

See you poolside
