My art consists of a several different media ranging from installations, sculpture, photography and digital rendering. My work is inspired by my life long dedication to street art and graffiti. I love the freedom that graffiti allows me to experience. With graffiti, I am not confined to a canvas nor am I trapped inside a frame or box, I am just free to cover up a space and I really love that aspect of it. I make site specific installations, and I create the piece with these aspects of autonomy in mind. I use different materials such as vinyl, tape, electrical tape, and found objects, which are usually applied directly to the wall. Most of my installation work deals with the same freedom I get from graffiti.
In all my work and most of my installations, I intentionally create art that is simultaneously shocking and beautiful. I love the tension of viewing something so outrageous and dark, within the context of something beautiful. In fact, I play these tensions off one an other in every aspect of the object’s creation. The images, the color, the drawings, are all set up to create tensions between the two opposites.
In my canvas work I use original photography and appropriated images I find in film, media, newspapers, and magazines; I print them, and then I paint on top of them or layer drawings over them. Most of the imagery is inspired by personal experience and observation, but what I really care about is the singular, represented moment and what sort of response it will elicit from my audience. This keeps me and hopefully the viewers, persistently inquisitive and always questioning everything.
My influences range from such greats as John Michele Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Marcel Duchamp, Keith Harring, Berry McGee, John Cage, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, Yoko Ono, Francis Bacon, Lee Bontecou, William de Kooning, Lucian Freud, and countless graffiti kings and street artist that still inspire me to this day.
